Rumble Fish


How important are the following characters in the film Rumble fish:



Rusty James: The main character. He is a young boy who has many problems in his particular life. At the same time, he is always wondering and trying to find his destiny, trough violence. He is the central part of the movie, and represents the fluctuations of adolescents.



The Motorcycle Boy: Rusty`s brother. He has a central role in the movie. Because, he is absent and at the same time he is present in the main situations that Rusty faces. The Motorcycle Boy has a particular view of the world and his influence is determinant is Rusty`s life. He was an icon for Rusty and his friends.



Steve Hays: Steve is a good and patient friend. He is always supporting Rusty`s behaviour and at the same time, he is able to criticize Rusty when he is acting in a wrong way. Steve is the equilibrium in Rusty`s life.



Patty: She is Rusty`s girlfriend for a period of time. She lives in a traditional house with an strict family, composed by her mother and a sister. Patty loves Rusty, but she is not able to tolerate his life.



Cassandra: She represents how a girl can influenced your life in a negative way. She is like a Motorcycle`s girlfriend, but she is drogadict and she loves the "living legend", but he is always in his private moon.



Patterson: The cop is an authority in the city. He is alwyas trying to catch Rusty and The Motorcycle Boy. He is a figure who controls people movements and generates a weak atmosphere in the neighborhood. Moreover, he is the main opponent to their way of life.



Smokey: He is a friend who is always helping Rusty when he is facing risks. According to his life, Smokey is a person who moves with the wind. I mean, he has not a clear idea about his future as the majority of the gang.



Rusty's parents: They are absent. His father is an alcoholic man who doesn´t have a good and correct life. His mother is living with another man, and she is only a bad memory in his life. Parents are the reason why he has that kind of life.
